I consider Jay McShann a National Treasure. In fact he still resides here in Kansas City and if you pay attention you can even catch one of his show stopping performances around town (I have). In this 1998 interview, Jay McShann discusses with Colin Davey how he developed his boogie woogie style in Kansas City, including the influence of Pete Johnson.

I thought I would list a few organizations, foundations and museums that are striving to keep the roots of American music alive through education, assistance and by example. These are just a few that I know of, I'm sure there a quite a few more out there. Right here in Kansas City, besides the Blues Society which I have already mentioned, we have the Museums at The 18 th and Vine Historical District which consists of a Jazz Museum, The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and The Gem Theater
Willie Dixon's Blues Heaven Foundation in Chicago, is in the building that housed Chess Records. It's a museum and learning center. Put it on you list of places to go, the next time you in Chi-town.
The Rhythm and Blues Foundation is a not-for-profit service organization whose mission is to
foster wider recognition, financial support, and historic and cultural preservation of rhythm and
blues music and artists of the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. This sounds like a worthy endeavor to me.
